Giant Pumpkins Ireland GIY

We are a group of enthusiastic giant vegetable growers, based in Louth but members are spread throughout Ireland. 

We hope to provide an interactive web site to the giant pumpkin growing community in  Ireland! We would also like to promote the exciting sport/hobby of giant pumpkin and giant squash growing by helping new comers get started.

We host events every year such as our Spring Growers Seminar in March and our Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off to celebrate the harvest come October!

Hello all,
We had our first G.I.Y meet up in our community garden and allotments
at Bridgefoot Street Community Garden Dublin 8.
we have cleared 2 allotments and would love to plant up some Big Pumpkins.
has any one got some tips How

Hi Richard! We'll be giving a thorough "how to" at our Spring growers seminar in March but the basic requirements are a deep soil with plenty of organic matter. A soil test is a good place to start. Good seeds are essential, we can provide these at our Seminar too.

Sow when will yous start sowing the giant pumpkins I'd imagine it would be a fare bit earlier than commercial ones

Hi Richard, Well drained, deep soil with plenty of well composted organic matter is great for pumpkins! If you get your soil tested you can then correct any nutritional deficits or correct the pH.
