Plastic pollution is a problem that affects us all. The only way to effectively tackle this critical issue is by working together with citizens, governments, businesses, and not-for-profits to make a difference.
An Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup offers a unique opportunity for you to take action and make a positive impact in your community alongside your friends, family, or colleagues. By participating in a cleanup, you can help reduce the amount of litter that ends up in our ocean. Additionally, the data you collect during the cleanup will provide Ocean Wise and our partners with essential information for addressing pollution at its source.
"Before starting our monthly shoreline cleanups I was quite upset by the amount of litter, especially styrofoam, that I would see in our local parks and around my neighborhood. Ducks swimming around and dodging styrofoam was my breaking point. For my 30th birthday, I got my friends together and we cleaned up our first shoreline. We have been hooked ever since! 2 weeks ago we completed our 17th clean-up and retrieved over 40 pounds of litter otherwise headed back into the Fraser River and then the Pacific Ocean. As a small group, our cleanup club is the most rewarding contribution to our planet we can make on a regular basis."
Time:
No cleanup is too small! You'll need to spend some time gathering materials (buckets, gloves, grab sticks, and a scale) but after that, any time removing plastic pollution from its path to the ocean is time well spent!
