CHALLENGE GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA 

What is the aim of the AWS Fundo para Educação?

The objective of the AWS Fundo para Educação, sponsored by AWS, in collaboration with the União de Gestão de Educação de Jundiaí and ChangeX, is to support non-profit associations or foundations registered in the State of São Paulo to start or expand an existing project, with the objective of promoting innovative practices in the municipal educational system in Jundiaí, São Paulo. All projects must meet the criteria outlined in the following section. Applications will be assessed and scored based on the criteria below and the proposed positive impact they will have on schools. All projects must be managed in an inclusive and welcoming manner and any events organized as part of your project must comply with all relevant public health guidelines.

Criteria 

The following criteria must be met by all applicants:

• The project must address at least one of the following topics:
  • Learning through Play
  • STEM
  • Digital skills
  • Inclusion
  • Sustainability
  • Mental health and social-emotional skills T
• The projects must take place within the Municipality of Jundiaí.
• Applicants must provide a non-profit legal entity registration certificate.
• The candidate must not be political figures or organizations.
• The project should benefit children in elementary school, early years, in municipal basic education schools, EMEB, in Jundiaí.
• Proposals must comply with the following:
  • Have the prior approval of the respective directives of the school/s;
  • Be suitable proposals for the school period, not compromising the work that is already being developed;
  • Alignment with BNCC and the Jundiai curriculum;
  • To generate autonomy for educators participating in the municipal network, so that they can work continuously on the principles of training-material, as well as the contents involved;
  • Collective personalized construction of activities to be developed in the classroom, respecting the different realities and skills of educators;
  • Ensure the systematization of content and knowledge by those involved
  • Proposals that demonstrate a) goals and results to be achieved, b) stages and deadline for execution, c) indication of evaluation criteria to be used, d) value of the object and the convenience of implementing the project for the Municipal Public Administration.

Opening date

The challenge opens for applications on August 8, 2023. Applications for all projects close on September 5, 2023. Applicants will be notified by October 5, 2023 if they have received funding or if they have not been successful. Projects must be executed by April 30, 2024 at the latest.

What can the funding be used for?

The AWS Fundo para Educação can be used to cover direct costs relating to the set-up or maintenance of the new or existing project. For example, funds can be used for space rental, insurance fees, seeds and planting materials, tools, training fees; pretty much any materials you might need for a project that benefits your community. 

ChangeX shall not be held liable to reimburse any costs that are incurred by applicants, prior to the release of funds by ChangeX. In exceptional circumstances, applicants may seek written approval from ChangeX to incur costs ahead of the release of funds. Written approval will be granted at the sole discretion of ChangeX. Payments will only be made if ChangeX finds that all relevant requirements are met.

Any potential tax consequences, reporting requirements, and consents from third parties are solely the responsibility and liability of the recipient of the funding.

What can the funding not be used for? 

Funds may not be used to promote or engage in criminal acts of violence, terrorism, hate crimes, the destruction of any state, or discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, religion, military and veteran status, disability, sex, age, gender identity or sexual orientation, or support of any entity that engages in these activities.

The fund cannot be used to cover costs of work that has already been carried out and can’t be used for anything that is not related to the set-up and maintenance of the new community project. It cannot be used to cover the promotion of religious causes, non-charitable activities, sponsorship or fundraising events. Funds cannot be used as payment to group members for their work on the project.

Reporting Requirements and Funding 

In return for any funding you may receive, you are required to share the outcomes of your new project with ChangeX and AWS.

 The subsidy allocated to your new project is divided into two stages. The first payment (70% of the total funding amount) can be accessed once your application is approved. To receive the resource, you must have a bank account registered in Brazil in the name of your organization. After successfully unlocking your finance, you will be taken to our payment partners website to enter your bank details and verify your organization. The second payment (30% of the total resource value) will be issued to you after completing an impact survey demonstrating the results of your project and sharing photos and a narrative description of the activities carried out. The impact survey will be accessible for filling out on your page on the ChangeX platform from three months after you sign up to start the project. You will receive email reminders about completing this survey and will have up to six months after the original application to complete this survey.

It is very important that you keep all receipts and records of how any funding you might receive is spent as ChangeX will collect and review these receipts before releasing the second installment of funding. If receipts cannot be shown, or the funds are found to have been spent on costs other than those relating to the set-up or maintenance of the new or existing community project, no further funds will be allocated to this project and ChangeX reserves the right to retrieve the funds that have already been distributed. The applicant will be indefinitely ineligible to apply for any subsequent grants through ChangeX.

Multiple applications

Non-profit legal entities can submit up to three funding requests, for different projects. Each application must be made and the resulting project led by a different member of the entity's leadership team. Projects that take place in the same location must be different and complementary.

Family

Family and close relatives of ChangeX employees or of AWS are not eligible to apply for funding.

Where is this funding coming from?

This fund is sponsored by AWS. ChangeX is solely responsible for the management of the fund, including the selection of applicants, starter support, fund distribution and impact tracking.

Sharing your project with media or on social 

We encourage you to share news about your community project through your local media or on social media in order to find people to join and support your project, or just to share some positive news with your wider community. When talking to media, we kindly ask you to mention the source of the funding for your project. For example, you can say: “The project received funding through the AWS Fundo para Educação, run by ChangeX.” OR “The project has been made possible thanks to funding from AWS and support from ChangeX.” On social media, please use the following hashtags when announcing your project: #AWSfundoEducacao
