We urgently need to mobilize mass climate action worldwide. Over the last few years, some of the key insights we’ve observed when it comes to climate action at a local community level are:
- People are craving a role in solving the problem, but only a small percentage of people are currently driving meaningful climate action in their local communities.
- Proven climate solutions already exist, but these technologies and practices are often not accessible for wide-scale replication at the community level.
- Funders, including governments and corporates, are investing increasing amounts of finance into communities, but need help to ensure funds flow to proven solutions, making them accessible to more people, and delivering measurable impact.
This combination of willingness to act at the community level and increased funding represents a huge opportunity. For quite some time, we’ve been following the work of Project Drawdown and we’re excited to establish a partnership that we hope will give more community leaders and funders better information about solutions as well as the opportunity to drive meaningful climate action through scaling effective climate solutions.
Project Drawdown is a nonprofit organization that seeks to help the world reach “Drawdown”— the future point in time when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline. Since the 2017 publication of the New York Times bestseller, Drawdown, the organization has emerged as a leading resource for information and insight about climate solutions. Their team of researchers conducts an ongoing review and analysis of climate solutions — the practices and technologies that can stem and begin to reduce the excess of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.
“Our work shows the world can reach Drawdown by mid-century, if we make the best use of all existing climate solutions. Certainly, more solutions are needed and emerging, but there is no reason—or time—to wait for innovation. Now is better than new, and society is well equipped for transformation today.” — Project Drawdown
The purpose of the partnership between ChangeX and Project Drawdown is to increase the adoption of climate solutions at a local community level. We’ll work together to identify, package, and support the spread of the best community-based solutions; providing community leaders with the ideas, support and resources they need to activate and have an impact.
“Together with ChangeX, we’re excited about the opportunity to support collaborative action on Drawdown solutions at a local community level and to mobilize a new group of leaders.”
– Crystal Chissell, VP of Operations & Engagement, Project Drawdown
In the coming weeks and months, our teams will work together to package the first cohort of Drawdown projects, and we’ll work with our existing partners, such as Microsoft, and our growing community of changemakers to support the global effort of moving the world toward Drawdown, all while supporting happier, healthier and more connected communities.
