The Programme
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-14* engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO® robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.
*ages vary by country
Robot Game - Teams build a robot using a reusable LEGO® MINDSTORMS® or LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kit that they programme to autonomously complete a series of missions on a season-specific field to score as many points as possible.
Innovation Project - Teams must research and design an innovative solution to a real-world problem relevant to the annual Challenge theme.
Robot Design - Teams must explain the process of designing, building, and programming their LEGO robot.
Core Values - Teams express the FIRST philosophies of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition (ie cooperative competition) through our Core Values:
• Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas. • Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems. • Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world. • Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences. • Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together. • Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!
