E-motionArte

E-motionarte empowers children aged 6-13 to create animated films about their rights to play and participate, using digital storytelling and stop motion techniques with expert guidance from Colectivo Tomate.

Colectivo Tomate has developed this methodology over 13 years of community work, combining art with social transformation through dialogue, participation, and creative expression. Their approach recognises that integrating art and play opens powerful spaces for children to share feelings and viewpoints authentically.

The programme uses digital storytelling for transformation (DST) methodology, which empowers participants to become storytellers of their own experiences. Stop motion animation serves as the technical vehicle, but the focus remains on narrative development and meaningful expression rather than technical perfection.

Research shows that creative expression significantly enhances children's ability to articulate complex thoughts and emotions. This programme specifically targets rights awareness, helping children understand and advocate for their fundamental rights whilst developing digital literacy skills increasingly important in today's world.

The collaborative nature of film creation builds teamwork skills and creates shared ownership of outcomes. Children learn to negotiate creative decisions, respect diverse perspectives, and work towards common goals—all whilst exploring serious topics through engaging, age-appropriate methods.

Final videos can be shared with broader communities when participants consent, creating opportunities for advocacy and awareness-raising beyond the immediate group.
