Coding Pirates Club

Coding Pirates Club

Start a Coding Pirates club where children aged 7-17 explore technology through play and creativity, building digital skills whilst having fun in a supportive community environment.

Coding Pirates was established to create nationwide communities around technology, play, and creativity, particularly addressing schools' challenges in delivering effective technology education. The organisation has grown rapidly across Denmark, with most local clubs developing waiting lists due to high demand.

The initiative particularly attracts children and young people who face challenges in traditional school environments, providing them with a supportive space to pursue their technological passions alongside like-minded peers. Research shows that informal STEAM education significantly improves young people's confidence and technical capabilities.

Local associations become part of a strong national network that supports volunteers through shared resources, training opportunities, and collaborative projects. The model has proven successful in both urban and rural communities, adapting to local needs whilst maintaining consistent quality standards.

Volunteers report high satisfaction levels, with many describing the experience as rewarding both personally and professionally. The programme's emphasis on peer learning means older participants often mentor younger ones, creating a sustainable community of practice.
