Join the global urban waste tracking effort with just a smartphone and an internet connection

The survey itself doesn’t take long. However, we recommend conducting the survey once a week for at least 5 months, as consistent survey activity is needed to generate data trends and heatmaps.
Identify the area – Find a location where you and your team could carry out the project
Create a group of at least five core members and develop a six-month project execution plan.

※ Currently, the Urban Knights AI app is only available for Android devices. iOS users, please apply to the Urban Knights group in the Sea Knights app and participate. The version is scheduled to be released at the end of the year.
Once you complete the 30-day challenge, Ocean will share online training materials about the background of the Sea Knights and the need for Urban Knights. Through the training, you will learn and understand:
Background and concept of the Sea Knights
A detailed explanation of Urban Knights and the importance of monitoring urban waste
Training will equip you to become a citizen scientist.
OceanTian shares additional educational materials to guide you through using the app, including how to register the app, upload data, conduct research, and generate reports.
Through this training, participants will learn:
How to register for apps and databases
How to effectively upload data using the app
How to safely investigate in urban areas
How to create and analyze data reports
After completing the training, Ocean will create a project group on the Ocean Cloud platform where participants can submit and view data.
Now, get out there and start your research! If you have more than 10 people, we recommend dividing into small groups of 3 to broaden the scope of your research.
After your research, you can upload your data in real time via the Urban Knights AI app or the Sea Knights app, or upload it later when you have an internet connection. You can check the results immediately via the platform.
After you have completed five or more surveys, you can request a simple interim report to check on your progress (only once during the project period).
After conducting research for more than five months, we analyze the data with Ocean and derive meaningful results.
Sharing your analysis results with your community can encourage citizen science activities and raise awareness of the problem of urban waste discharge.
Based on the data, interim reports, and final reports, consider what actions to take going forward.
