The “Daycare and School Bees” project connects children with nature and teaches them how to use bees responsibly, while at the same time developing an appreciative attitude towards the environment. Initial concerns about these prickly creatures are overcome, which has a positive effect on children's sense of self-efficacy. As a result, the program goes beyond environmental education and contributes to the children's personal development by strengthening their social skills, their sense of self-efficacy and their self-confidence. The children learn how they can get involved in environmental and species protection.
The program was developed in 2020 by Stadtbienen in collaboration with Acker. Since then, 17 Berlin schools and 3 other schools have taken part. The main sponsor is the Berlin Senate, supported by the Heidehof Foundation and the Joachim Herz Foundation.
