5 Step Guide to

Through A Woman's Eyes

Overview

"Art testimonial - "I want to thank you for so many things: for making this show possible, for raising money for young women to get an education, for giving all of us a view of what young women can do! You are all an inspiration and that was the biggest boost for me despite the indescribable pleasure of receiving your 2nd place award in a field of such outstanding work by so many people. Women together have always made the world a better place! You bet I will be in the show in 2024, and every year that you hold it and that I am able to continue to make Art. I loved your theme and I learned so much from the research I did for it. I am also grateful for that challenge because we should all try to be more aware of the work of women who have been overlooked, ignored, shut-out and exploited."" -

Resource Checklist

Time

At our show, we allot six months to plan and prepare. These are the general times we recommend you spend on each topic. Creating/developing a theme: 1 hour Gathering materials (i.e. artist contract, interest forms): 2 hours Finding and booking a venue:* 2 hours Making promotional materials:* 2 hoursRecruiting artists:* 5+ hoursRecruiting sponsors:* 3+ hoursCollecting the art/setting up the venue: 5 hours (the day or morning before the show)*Indicates that a step is variable in time commitment and could be more or less then our suggested time

Every year we try to pick something slightly different then the last, but this piece is really up to you! Try to think of theme that is broad enough to encompass many different pieces, but specific enough to give enough direction to the creators.

In previous years we have done Honoring Hidden Women, Women in S.T.E.A.M., and Modern Womanhood.

If you are hosting an art show, you need a place to display the art! We have partnered with our local women's club, who kindly offers their meetinghouse to us for free. If you are looking for a low cost venue, we encourage you to look into renting spaces such as local libraries, meetinghouses, and other public spaces. Depending on sponsorship funds, you could also look into a more expensive venue.

We recommend you reach out to different local businesses who would interested in supporting an event like this.
We have reached out to a local driving school, small businesses, and independent donors. The sponsors provide the funds for our prizes and reception.

This includes:

- Making posters to be displayed in the local area

- Reaching out to local venues

- Contacting art classes in studios and schools

- Asking friends and family

If you have a resources/funds, maybe think about having a live performance during the show, refreshments, raffle baskets, and even selling the art!
