5 Step Guide to

Parent PlayBoxes

Overview

Parent PlayBoxes "Welcome to the Parent PlayBox on ChangeX! Our initiative is designed to empower parents of children aged 3-6 by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to actively engage in their child's growth and development through play-based learning activities. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of implementing the Parent PlayBox initiative in your community. By taking part in the 30 Day Challenge here on ChangeX, you may be able to access funding to cover the costs of implementation. Throughout the journey, ChangeX and Kids Collab, will provide ongoing support and guidance. Together, let's create a vibrant and enriching environment for our children's early years." - Whitney Richardson and Rachel McMahon- Kids Collab Co-Founders

Time

The Starters who introduce the Project into their community would only need to dedicate a few hours over the course of 2-3 weeks at the outset in order to source and select interested parents/ caregivers, host the group session where parents receive training and their Parent PlayBoxes and conduct general administration tasks such as onboarding parents to the Support Group.

Identify the communities within your area where parents may benefit from the PlayBox initiative- you will need 25 parents of children ages 3-6 to take part in the initiative. Consider factors such as access to early childhood education resources, socio-economic conditions, and parental engagement levels.

Spread the word about the Parent PlayBox initiative to potential parents in your community. Utilize various communication channels such as social media, community newsletters, local events, and word-of-mouth to share information about the initiative, its benefits, and how parents can join to be part of the programme. Make use of the Graphic and Letter in your resources to spread the information. Provide clear instructions on how interested parents can join, including contact details- you can edit the letter to include this.

Organise a centralised in-person training session for your group of selected parents/caregivers, facilitated by the Kids Collab project team via an online session. You will receive a Calendly link to book one of the monthly slots. The training session will require a projector/ laptop and internet connection so that parents can connect with the Kids Collab Team. During this session, parents/caregivers will receive comprehensive guidance on effectively utilizing the PlayBoxes and engaging in play-based learning activities with their children. This interactive training will equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to maximize the benefits of the Parent PlayBox initiative.

After the training session distribute the PlayBoxes to participating parents, ensuring each family receives the necessary materials to embark on their play-based learning journey. Encourage parents to actively utilize the PlayBoxes and engage in regular activities with their children- this will be covered by the Kids Collab Project team during the training session.

Kids Collab will create a closed community group for all participating parents/caregivers. This group will serve as a platform for parents to connect, ask questions, share their experiences, and receive support throughout their journey in the Parent PlayBox initiative. Regular check-ins, support sessions, and the opportunity to share success stories and ideas will be facilitated within the community group. A process of Monitoring and Evaluation will take place with a baseline and end line online survey which parents will be asked to complete pre-training and post-six-month implementation.
