Juicie Jim from GIY Waterford is coming to Galway Libraries this Tuesday 20th of February for a FREE talk and workshop, as part of Healthy Ireland at your library.
Juicie Jim is a Living Food, Foraging and Growing Instructor from Waterford who has been involved with GIY since 2011. He got his name from doing popup juice and probiotic bars and workshops at festivals around the country. He will be in Galway on Tuesday 20th of February to give talks at three libraries as part of the Healthy Ireland at your Library initiative. Jim will talk about GIY and how to easily grow some of your own food. Jim has lots of knowledge to share and has been part of the education team at GROW HQ since it opened in October 2016.
Jim will do a quick workshop in sprouting and fermentation as part of his talk. He will have copies of the new edition of the award winning GROW COOK EAT book by Michael Kelly, ahead of the TV series of the same name which will launch on RTE 1 on March 14th.

Two events being organised by Mayo County Council to highlight 'The Plight of our Pollinators'.
Both events will be held in the Arts Centre, Barrett Street, Ballina on Tuesday
13th February 2018.
Who should attend?
The first event commencing at 11am finishing at 1 pm is structured to guide those who are employed in managing and maintaining our Parks and open spaces/road verges etc.
The event is particularly relevant to local authority staff, CE employees and elected members. It will also be of interest to businesses and individuals who are involved in maintaining open spaces or areas around their businesses.
The second event commencing at 7pm and finishing at 8pm is aimed at community groups/tidy towns committees/resident associations/farmers and landowners.
Members of the public, bee-keepers and indeed anybody that cares about their environment is welcome to attend.
There is no opportunity to pre-book so arrive early to ensure a seat.

Hey everyone! What a great response in just a few days...woohoo!!
I just want to give some context to the idea behind the creation of Ballyglass GIY:
Recently, Mayo County Council has re-opened the beautiful laneway through d'annagh (the bog) in Ballinaglea. A stretch of this now accessible walking route, we've heard, was once a choice spot for picking fruit.
My co-conspirators Noelle Staunton, Nora Conroy and I thought, 'Wouldn't it be lovely to reinstate the fruits and nuts to the laneway, banks and ditches?' Apples, nuts, damsons, wild cherries, berries, wild strawberries...a wild orchard! And perhaps a tea garden?
Of course this is only the beginning... local food from the ditches, gardens and window boxes of the community, could there be a more delicious ambition?
This group is for the whole community so spread the word to everyone in your area who likes to eat. Joining in can simply mean offering suggestions, sharing experience, knowledge of the area, encouraging words, tools, plants or physical labour and some good recipes will be needed too!
When the weather cuts us some slack we will organise a walk through d'annagh, have a cuppa in the community centre and get going.
