Welcome to 121digital! We want to create a network of tutors right across the country that share their digital skills with previous generations. Together we can learn, share and collaborate, crossing digital and generational divides. Here you can learn how to get involved!

121digital is an intergenerational programme that brings digital natives and adults in the community together to learn, share and collaborate. Adults ('Learners') bring their digital device (smartphone/laptop/tablet) and receive free one-on-one tuition from digitally skilled people ('Tutors'), typically Transition Year students, third level students and other digitally skilled members of the community. Lots of learning happens in a fun and relaxed environment and many of the tutors say “it’s the most rewarding thing” while adults who take part often say they feel more confident, secure, in-touch and able to communicate when they finish the 6-week course.
121digital provides a genuine reason for members of the community of different ages to come together using digital skills as the 'glue' - young adults have the digital skills and through the programme are equipped to help Learners overcome their fear of technology. The knowledge gleaned by Learners equips them with the tools to fight the isolation they might otherwise experience and provides a social outlet through contact with the young Tutors. Tutors also develop interpersonal skills and teaching skills while experiencing community work and getting recognition for their digital skills.
For the older generation, it gives them an opportunity to learn at their own pace, keep up with technology, stay independent in the modern world and mix with younger people. For the younger generation, they realise how much skill they have to pass on, connect with the older generation and learn more about them. The class creates great camaraderie between both generations.
