"Welcome to Playful Street on ChangeX. We want to empower a national movement of kids and communities playing together on the street. We've put together a simple guide, based on our experience and we're excited to help you get started!"

The Idea
Playful Streets are a low cost and easy way to create play spaces by temporarily closing streets to traffic, so children and neighbours can play outside — just like you did when you were young!

Playful Streets are a low cost and easy way to create play spaces by temporarily closing streets to traffic, so children and neighbours can play outside — just like you did when you were young!
During your Playful Street, your street becomes a safer place to play and chat to neighbours - children can play hopscotch, ride bikes, play football or tip the can… Playful Streets encourage children to play outside, making exercise fun and easy, while at the same time building stronger communities.
How does it work?
Playful Streets are meant to be simple, you’ll find that using your common sense is what you’ll need most. Playful Streets offer children the chance to play freely and safely on local streets while offering the chance for neighbours to meet. Playful Streets are big or small occasions. They can run for a couple of hours on any day of the week. They can be one-off or regular events … whatever works for you and your neighbours. You can find out more in this guide to hosting a Playful Street.
Don’t worry! The first Playful Street might take a little more work, but after that it’ll be smooooooooooth sailing as you’ll have done it all before :)
"There is a great community here, great neighbours that live here. And you can see that because of a Playful Street everyone is out on the street. They're all out helping because they want the best for their kids - they just want their kids to come out to play."
- Lisa Purcell, Dublin 1
How to get involved
Time:
This can be a one-off event or a recurring event, it's up to you! The first one will take a bit more organising but it should be all plain sailing after that!
