In February 2014, inspired by the success of the Incredible Edible movement in the UK, and by the values and example of the global urban edible movement, the seeds for an #EdibleBristol were sown in a Twitter conversation between professional horticulturist and gardener Sara Venn and human rights and environment scholar/activist Anna Grear, quickly developing into a vision of Bristol as the UK’s first edible city.
IF YOU EAT, YOU’RE IN.
At our inaugural meeting on 3rd March 2014, we discussed our vision of Bristol as the UK’s first Edible City, showed films of Pam Warhurst of Incredible Edible Todmorden and of Ron Finley in South Central LA and networked with a crowd of more than 100 people. The scene was set and the ball had definitely been set rolling…….
We have gained massive support using social media, done some crowdfunding, signed up almost 200 people to a volunteer network, built a website, designed some merchandise, made connection with almost 50 food growing groups around the city, become involved in planning new and exciting food based projects and have planted food in at least 20 places.
