Lunch Out of Landfills

Lunch Out of Landfills began when it became clear to the team at Mountainside Education and Enrichment that schools are the center of where we learn about the world around us- and young people are at the center of change. Through combining schools as a powerful place for learning and students as powerful agents of change, LOoL aims to transform how young people understand systems of food waste and food recovery and empower them to become agents of change.

According to The Drawdown Initiative, reducing food waste is the 3rd most effective strategy (out of more than 80!) for reversing global warming. But the story doesn't end there. Through learning about composting, students learn about healthy soil and the possibilities of growing healthy food. Through partnering with local groups, students become part of a network of change.
