Thanks to the seed funding, we were able to purchase new materials for our Lego Robotics Club including new EV3 kits, challenge sets and playing field borders. Last year, our after-school club consisted of eight students, this year we were able to increase that number to almost thirty students! The students were able to get an understanding of the robotic kits, the coding software, problem solving, working as a team and presenting their final products. We have already had a students state that they are excited to return next year and to continue to build on the skills they were able to acquire.
Our project will include purchasing LEGO EV3 Robotics Kits, starting an after-school LEGO club with our 6th and 7th grade students and finding a way to get the LEGO Robotics Kits involved in our daily curriculum. We decided to start a virtual after-school club for right now being we are all remote learning and this will allow for social distancing and we won't need to worry about keeping the robotics kits cleaned, as only the after-school leaders will have access to the robots at first. We decided to start with the 6th and 7th graders first, as this will allow for the students to return to the club next school year and really take on a leadership role. We're also hoping to be able to integrate the robotics into the daily science and/or math curriculum, to allow for more students to have exposure to the robotics curriculum, as opposed to just those in the after school club. The seed funding will be used to purchase robotics kits and possible add-ons that will be needed (extra motors and sensors).
