Mimi started her career journey over twenty-five years ago teaching second grade in Memphis, Tennessee and migrated to Chicago in 2018. She found her teaching home in Chicago’s Howard area of Rogers Park at GALE CommUNITY Academy's Middle School. After observing the harsh inequities that build up creating a wall between underserved young people and opportunities all around them, she created Community Makery, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing equity among youth by bringing STEAM+(Science Tech Engineering Arts Math & More) opportunities to them.
