Some of the things repaired so far.

Pics from our second Repair Cafe with a growing band of volunteers

Our first Repair Café went very well. With the ChangeX funding, we were able to purchase a Portable Appliance Tester, some switched extension leads with breakers, and a few tools and accessories. We had support through the Share and Repair Network in Scotland which helped with policies, risk assessments and mentoring. Our first café saw 5 of our volunteers supported by 7 from a Glasgow project, covering repairing, admin and hospitality roles. There was a lot of learning all round to help us going forward, including what tools and sundries to purchase. We have had interest from other potential volunteers now and are building on the many ideas we have - some of which are being helped forward by connections made as a result of this first event. Our favourite story was of one person who brought something in to be repaired, but while waiting, turned into a volunteer as she mended a hole in a cuddly toy brought in by a young family. Lots of potential for the future especially with the wonderful support already received from other local community groups. Next steps will be to firm up a college link, connect with local businesses, and to go and buy some more tools.

Being launched tomorrow (1 May)
