Welcome! Thank you for joining us in bringing the joy of unstructured play to the children of NYC.
Welcome! Thank you for joining us in bringing the joy of unstructured play to the children of NYC.
here's the rundown of what we did and how it went:
set up 9am-11am - shlepping boxes and materials was no easy feat and help was wonderful
- chalk sidewalk with invite and info
- set up trash
- open boxes
- set up materials in an inviting way
- welcome sign "come play"
11am-2pm - boxes galore! We had cardboard boxes, tubes, paint, paint sticks, buckets, tape, scissors, a bit of shade and a bit of sun, and lots of random fun stuff for everyone to explore
as participants ( or the curious) arrived, I greeted them and reassured them that this was open to all, and that they can play and enjoy - no rules, just keep yourself and others safe
about 10 families joined from hearing about the event prior to the day, and another 15 or so just walked by and joined.
some people stayed for hours other for a few minutes
clean up was a breeze with help and a park trashcan nearby
the event was so much fun and would certainly like to do more in the future.
we had a great event with about 25 families participating in 3 hours.
more than the funding, the accountability to the grant helped with creating this event.
the entirety of the funding will be donated to recent refugees that have arrived in NY.
