Eco Beo is a unique place-based learning programme for primary school kids. It has been designed, developed and delivered by the Burrenbeo Trust to over 1,200 primary school students in the Burren region over the past decade. During a 20 week programme, kids learn about a different subject relating to their area – geology, history, archaeology, flora, fauna etc – as well as farming, tourism and conservation. The kids then do a project on their area and present it to their community at a final ‘graduation’ event. The programme can be adapted to any community as all places have an inherent learning potential and the ‘outdoor classroom’ is a resource that schools, both teachers and students, can benefit from.
