DabbledooMusic came from the work and research of Shane Mc Kenna in the area of new music notation for education. In 2008, he published a masters thesis in Trinity College Dublin which proposed a new system of colour coded, animated musical notation that would make music more accessible, fun and engaging for teachers and students alike.
In 2012, Shane was joined by musician and visual artist Killian Redmond to create DabbledooMusic, an online resource that would serve the needs of teachers and students everywhere. In 2014, they raised funding through the crowd funding platform FUNDIT in order to build an interactive online resource to cover all areas of the Irish primary school curriculum. In 2016 DabbledooMusic received the elevator award from Social Entrepreneurs Ireland which helped to complete a full music curriculum delivery system for Irish schools. There are currently over 1,800 online users with over 100 schools reached and 23 schools now signed up to the full school curriculum package.
