The Idea
DabbledooMusic is Ireland’s most accessible and engaging music program for primary schools, delivered online to classrooms across Ireland.
We are an independent Irish company dedicated to providing primary schools with the resources, training and support to deliver the music and drama curricula.
Our weekly lessons provide a full school approach to the music curriculum with clear progressions from class to class, covering each of the curriculum strands. We have developed our curriculum with the help of teachers and schools across Ireland to make sure our resources are relevant and engaging for all teachers and students, regardless of their musical background.
Each lesson is designed to have the class singing, listening, composing and performing at every opportunity and to make sure that every teacher has the confidence and support to make music a more vibrant and relevant subject in your school.
Although the current primary level curriculum in Ireland recognises the importance of music education for children's development, there is an ongoing problem with the delivery of the curriculum. Current music pedagogies require the teacher to have a specialist knowledge of music to fulfil the requirements of the curriculum. The specific methodologies that they are being asked to employ and the resources made available to them mean that often both children and teachers miss out on the positive and fun experience of music education.
As a teacher, there are a number of ways you can engage with the DabbledooMusic programme and bring it to life in your classroom. There are a suite of online resources and courses that you can get started with straight away, there is ongoing CPD Courses and "on the ground" workshops to help facilitate group learning for schools or events. You can sign up as an individual teacher or take a whole school approach - it's up to you.
Music is a fundamental component of human culture and behaviour and it's something that students will be surrounded by for the rest of their lives. The goal of music education is to encourage children to appreciate and enjoy the hugely positive benefits that music can have on their lives and their relationship with the world around them. Children of all ages have the potential to develop self esteem and creativity as individuals as part of a profound shared experience that fosters empathy, positive mental health, communication and collaboration. That's why it's important to ensure that all children have access to quality music education.
