The Idea
Slow Food envisions a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet.
The Slow Food approach is based on a concept of food quality that is defined by three interconnected principles: good, clean and fair.
GOOD: a fresh and flavoursome seasonal diet that satisfies the senses and is part of the local culture.
CLEAN: food production and consumption that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or human health.
FAIR: accessible prices for consumers and fair conditions and pay for producers.
The Slow Food movement reconnects consumers to the source and quality of their food, as well as to its wider implications in the global food chain. Slow Food helps small producers access bigger markets and build sustainable businesses, it helps build profile for producers and informs consumers of alternatives to processed and unseasonal foods, and regularly organises events and education initiatives.
Slow Food helps to bring different kinds of projects to life all around the world. Just to name one of them, Slow Food built 10,000 food gardens in African communities to guarantee a supply of fresh, healthy food, but also training a network of food growers.
