The Arizona Sustainability Challenge is now closed for applications. The $70,000 challenge, in partnership with Microsoft, is dedicated to helping build thriving and sustainable communities across Arizona.

How it works

  • Submit a photo and your action plan
  • Once you're active let us know what impact you are having in your community

  • You want to start a ChangeX idea to improve your local community
  • You're passionate about building a sustainable community where you live in Arizona
  • You are an individual, an existing local group or a community organization
What you get
  • Seed funding to start your selected idea
  • Free starter resource pack, mentorship and technology tools to get started
  • Additional impact funding, once you report back on the social impact of your active project

    Organize a Walking School Bus in your local area for a healthier, more fun way for kids to get to and from school.

    Start a vertical school garden in your classroom to give kids access to fresh produce and to learn about growing food.

  • Recycle Across America

    Start recycling right with standardized recycling labels for your school that will help you to improve recycling and save your school money.

  • Bee Friendly Farming

    Promote pollinator health on your farm and receive recognition and consumer support for it.

  • Repair Café US

    Organize a free meeting place in your community to repair things instead of throwing them away.

  • Urban Forestry

    Bring people together in your neighborhood to plant trees for the benefit of your community and the environment.

  • Community Fridge

    Start a community fridge in your community to share good food that would otherwise go to waste.

  • The Last Plastic Straw

    Start a grassroots campaign to reduce and eliminate wasteful plastic straws from our communities.

  • Open Orchard

    Organise an Open Orchard to bring people together, provide free fruit to local residents and green our urban environments.

  • Pollinator Partnership

    Invite pollinators to your neighborhood by planting a pollinator friendly habitat in your garden, farm, school, park or just about anywhere!
