We have noticed that children became more interested in gardening. Each day, during break times, they volunteer to water the plants and they help with weeding them too. The other day, year 1 pupils told me they "love gardening". We have also noticed more children choose to sit around the green spaces as it helps them regulate their emotions.
Action plan:
Timeline: When will you be able to start your project? How often will your team meet? Are there any key dates to share for the project?
We will start as soon as funding is received so we can start setting up the space and get it ready for planting, ideally before the start of the school holidays on 23rd July.
We will meet weekly after staff meeting to discuss progress and area use.
We will launch the space in the Autumn after it's ready and do a planting day after the planters are in place.
Budget: You don't need to share exact prices, but please share how you're planning to spend the seed funding & what costs you're anticipating to get your project up and running:
Planters, plants, soil and seeds, sensory equipment: £1100
Reading/Calm area: £200
CPD for EYFS and KS1 staff: £300
Impact: How will your community benefit from this project? Do you have any measurable goals for your project, such as the number of people that will participate? Are you hoping to spread knowledge or increase interest in a specific subject?
We want to develop this area to complement existing gardening after school club so EYFS, KS1 and SEN children can access and use the area during school hours to provide a quiet, peaceful area for children to develop their reading skills, improve wellbeing.
We have a large number of EAL children, children with SEND and children who come from disadvanatged backgrounds. There are plans to expand language provision. We'd like to develop this area to provide a respite from the classroom to disruptive children.
We'd like to include one area for planting a mini sensory garden and another side to grow vegetables to encourage wellbeing and a healthy diet.
We anticipate at least 100 children will use the space throughout a year.
Location: If your project requires physical space, have you decided the location? Do you have all necessary permission and permits to carry out your project at the chosen location?
The wellbeing green area will be next to existing greening area and we don't need any additional permissions.
