We have included allotments in our remote co-working hub to give users the chance to have a break from work and go grow their own. We are calling it 'Work and grow!'
The allotments are also open to the public., its not exclusive!!
Well we are up and running. I laid in the water supply last week and now all the rotovating planting of hedges and gates is done.

I noticed that John Webb has expanded his private allotments on Sherlock's Lane in Kilcoole. This remains the best way to get into growing in Kilcoole, if you don't have a place of your own.

Hi folks - due to the current situation I am caring for the Kilcoole primary school's polytunnel while the students and teachers are away. It's likely that they are not going to resume school and our group would continue to manage the tunnel until September.
If one of our members within close proximity can commit to watering and using the tunnel I would be happy to set you up with access. There are six good-sized raised beds, some of which are partially used with perennials but most of the space is still open.
The tunnel requires watering at least once a week. The person managing the tunnel would also need to come and close the doors if a storm is forecast.

Hi James Thanks for the prompt reply. Thanks for the kind offer. Yes I woudl be interested in any feedback you have and advice, especially on border planting for wind breaks. There can be a cold wind on the field in winter as it is a slightly elevated site. Ive talked with Paul as well and he has given me some advice. He advised to get the land ploughed with some manure in it and leave it sit for 6 months to let the worm work through it. I am currently looking to get it ploughed as it has been grazed fo the last 50 years. Its not certified organic but the land has never had pesticides etc on it, so it wold be chemical free. If you had time I would appreciate any input you may have. Thanks Huw
Hi Huw, thanks for getting in touch. There would probably be some people from the group interested. There were previously people from Kilcoole who had allotments at Season Park in Newtown. Some of them have moved on to the new site at Easthill and others haven't taken a new allotment. I'd be happy to pass your contact info on to the group in the meantime. Also if you want any feedback on what makes a good private allotment site I'm sure Paul, myself and others could help you on the design and setup.
